The NAPLAN Online practice test was a great success last week. The opportunity gave both staff and students the experience of logging on, checking their details and equipment which has given them confidence in using the tools to answer the questions. The results from the practice test are not accessible to anyone. The whole exercise last week was for practice only.
The 2021 NAPLAN online test is being conducted between Tuesday 11 and Monday 17 of May. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The testing times across the week will cover one of the skills per day during a lesson. At the completion of the test students will have a short break before moving onto their next lesson. It is important for students to be in attendance for the whole week to access all aspects of the NAPLAN testing.
NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers' professional judgement about student progress and learning needs. Students in Years 7 and 9 are expected to participate in NAPLAN tests.
Students may be exempt or withdrawn from one or more of the tests (that is, reading, writing, conventions of language, numeracy). This is decided after the principal, student and the relevant parent/carer have consulted with each other and agreed that the student is not able to access the tests. Principals must obtain signed parent/carer consent for all withdrawn or exempt students prior to testing. The form can be accessed here.
